Hello Hello Hello

Hello Everyone!

It has been a very fast (almost) 2 months. This will probably be an extremely sporadic post since so much has happened. The more often I have internet, the more I will fill in the holes, I promise!

Well, the first 4 weeks of training we lived with a home-stay family. I stayed with a family of 5. They have 3 girls; 14 yr old twins and a 7 year old. I did have a lot of fun with them. They really enjoyed painting nails, talking about boys, and they were obsessed with High School Musical and Hannah Montana. I guess girls are girls everywhere.

Ok, so the living situation. I never took a picture of my room, but it was the width of a twin bed plus a foot and a half. It was a little tight, but Malagasy people aren't obsessed with personal space here. I'm tempted to say it doesn't exist. Also, all you have to do for attention in this country is look like you are from another country. And all you have to do to entertain them is speak Malagasy. My home-stay family actually had electricity, but we didn't really use it much. We woke up first thing in the morning, 6:00 am is sleeping in, and open the windows. Breakfast was at 6. School was at 8, either at another volunteer's house or at the commune. Snack was always at 10, and the Peace Corps Training Center cooks make the best banana bread EVER!!!! Lunch at 12:15. Class again. Dinner at 6:15 or 6:30. Always sent to my room right after dinner, so 6:45 or 7. I would just hang out in my room listening to music for about an hour, and usually asleep by 8. I lead a very exciting life. There was one common denominator for all meals: tons of rice and a banana for dessert.

I really meant for this to be a longer post, but my group is going this place called Happy King and American Cookie for baked goods.....so brownies must prevail! But I will be working hard for these posts!!

Bye for now!
