Calling Cards

There are probably a lot of options for calling cards, but this is a link from a current volunteer.

I will probably be getting a cell phone once I am in country, but I don't have a number yet. It should be free for me when people call, but I have no idea what the rates will be like for me to call.

We use Skype to call our daughter (a PCV in Madagascar). It's very straight forward to use and 30 cents a minute. I also use the Skype To Go app on my cell phone.

Where To Send Me Mail

So, I've got 2 addresses. One is in Tana where I got every few months or so and the other is in my town. Why would I ever send to the one that is not you town you ask? As of today, I have had no problems with mail getting to me in my town, but mail is notoriously known for being late/being tampered with. If it's something you are worried about, go ahead and send it to the first one, if not, the second is fine!

- It's only 98 cents to send a regular letter to Madagascar

- USPS flat rate mailing envelope (9x12") with contents less than 4lbs. is about $14.

- Don't declare a value over $10.

- Write "Airmail" and "Par Avion."

- Write used education or religious materials on packages and you don't have to be exact on customs card. Less likely for things to be stolen this way.

- Feel free to send as many or as large of packages as you want to send.

- Place stickers over the taped edges of the package so I can tell if it's been tampered with.

- DHL charges high fees for all packages; DO Not Use DHL.

- Mail arrives anywhere from 2-6 weeks.
